Stop hitting Claude limits
On Claude Pro or Max, waste doesn't show up as a bill. It shows up as a wall — the "limit reached" message at 4:40pm with ninety minutes of work left in your head. You can't spend your way past it mid-window. You can stop feeding it.
The wall is made of tokens you didn't need
Claude's 5-hour window and weekly caps meter what you send, not what you accomplish. And what a coding agent sends is mostly ballast: the same files re-read and re-shipped turn after turn, thousands of lines of test output when three lines mattered, history from an hour ago riding along on every request. Every one of those tokens counts against your window exactly as if it had been useful.
That's the frustrating part — most people hit the wall not because they worked too much, but because their agent sent too much.
What doesn't work
- Rationing yourself. Saving your window for "important" work means the limit is now managing you.
- Aggressive manual compaction. Squeeze too hard and the model loses what it needed — the answer misses, you re-ask, and the retry costs more window than the compaction saved.
- Upgrading on reflex. The jump from Claude Pro to Max is $80+ a month. It buys a bigger window — and the same waste fills it.
Make each request lighter instead
TokenBeaver runs on your machine between your agent and Claude, and slims every request before it's sent — nothing the model needed is lost, so answers land the first time. It works on Claude subscriptions as well as API keys, and wiring Claude Code is one command: tokenbeaver-gateway --install-claude-hooks.
In our internal testing across models, that stretched plan runway by 15–35% — the difference between hitting the wall mid-task and finishing the day inside your window. Fewer limit-hits, later upgrades. If Claude Code is your main surface, the Claude Code quota guide goes deeper on that specific setup.
Watch your runway, not your nerves
The localhost dashboard has a capacity view built for plan users: context runway stretched and limit-hits avoided, measured from your own sessions. No dollar guesses about a subscription that costs the same either way — just how much further your window went. Estimated on Free; verified on Pro, with the Activity Log to show exactly which sessions ate the window and which ones stretched it.
Free forever — no login, no card. CLI from npm or the VS Code extension, same local gateway either way.
